Nose
Red berries, plum jam, cocoa and a whiff of rose.
Palate
Thick and powerful; cherries, dark chocolate, cloves and toasted oak.
Finish
Very long, with drying tannins and lingering red fruit.
The verdict
Taiwan's subtropical climate pulls whisky through the cask at a terrifying speed, and the Solist range shows what that means at full strength. The colour alone is worth the pour: a deep mahogany with ruby glints.
Take it slow and give it time in the glass. Water tames the alcohol and opens up layer after layer of fruit.
